Ubiquitous Learning

Ubiquitous Learning is often simply defined as learning anywhere, anytime and is therefore closely associated with mobile technologies. The portability of computers and computing devices has blurred the traditional lines between formal and informal learning.

  1. In order to understand the true meaning and importance of ICTs; it is crucial to explore the meaning of ubiquitous learning. Using cellphones as a tool for teaching/learning is not enough; teachers need constantly keep in mind that new environments/contexts for learning and teaching have been created; learning is now “everywhere, any time” and not restricted to a classroom. Ubiquitous learning also involves considering new perspectives on how, what and why learning. For example, ask ourselves how am I going to use a device like a cellphone in the classroom? Why? how can I motivate my students to keep learning trough this tool outside the classroom?
